Where It All Started

CRGS was formed by accident back in 2001. Dave jnr just fancied playing with fatha (in Germany at the time) and his brother, Andy (in Wakefield) for a few days a year. It was also vital to get this established before the children arrived ("but we've always done this Julie.."). We had to move fast.

After arranging a trip to St Andrew's, a few friends were invited. Some of them invited friends and before long we had a total of 12 golfers. The weather that year in St Andrews was fantastic (the Old Lady kept her nashers in) and it was the hottest part of Europe.

We had to do it again...and again. Three straight years at the Home Of Golf before an extremely successful trip to Galloway in 2004. Future possible venues include Northumberland (2005), maybe Portugal at some point and South Carolina or Canada in 2010 (depends if we can all get into the US and the way things are going...).

The society name is from a trip Dave jnr made to the bank. Setting up the bank account he was told 'you need a name if you want a treasurer's account'. Quick as a flash (whilst standing in a bank in Crow Road !) the name of the Society was born.

Founding Priciples:

  • Affordable golf - that way it remains sustainable. We try to keep the costs to a minimum but try and play 'hidden gem' courses so that the quality of the courses remains high.
  • Invitation only - keeps out the riff raff!
  • er...that's about it really...
